ART HISTORY

Experience

During my Art History education, I developed a general understanding of the art world, comprehended the deep cultural influence that art can generate, and delved into contemporary art issues. My studies centered on 20th century art, particularly Minimalism, Dada, and Neuroaesthetics.

German Dada Art

Cut with the Dada  Kitchen Knife through the Last Weimar Beer-Belly Cultural Epoch in Germany is a Dada collage made in 1919 by Hannah Höch. It relied on imagery of technology, movement, and contemporary figures to pinpoint social and cultural issues of that time.

Reinterpretation

Highlight of 20th Century Issues

Research Project - Fall 2014

This was a research project on German Dada and Hannah Höch's Cut with the Dada  Kitchen Knife through the Last Weimar Beer-Belly Cultural Epoch in Germany collage. It intended to educate about the collage by drawing parallels between topics within the piece and 21st century issues. It advocates that some of the social concerns raised by the Dada artists are still relevant, even if they are present in new forms. The title of this piece, "Shot with the Unmanned Drone Through the Healthcare System of Socialist America," further emphasizes these parallel connections. This reinterpretation highlights Dada's adaptable, enduring, and influential nature.

While Höch's collage represented technology through mechanical pieces like gears, this sculpture emphasizes the intangible aspects of contemporary technology by focusing on the sharing of links. This 3D reinterpretation included a link to a video of how the piece was installed. The dubstep music of the video alludes to the chaotic compositional aesthetic of the Dada collages.
